The property tax rate for the Village of Dundee consists of three parts:
1. General operating – these monies fund the day to day operation of village government and pay for such things as police service, street maintenance, etc.
2. Municipal Highway – road maintenance.
3. Wastewater Debt – used to pay off the bonds issued for construction of the wastewater treatment plant.
With the exception of 1999, the Village Council has consistently voted to lower the tax rate in recent years, as the following chart illustrates:

The current tax rate of 10.00 mills equates to $10.00 per $1,000 of taxable value. To calculate the taxes you pay to the Village, multiply $10.00 by each $1,000 of the taxable value of your property.
For example, a home worth $100,000 on the open market might have a taxable value of $40,000. The Village tax bill would then be $400.00 (40 times $10.00)
Assessments
All village property lies within the boundaries of Dundee Township and is assessed by the Township Assessor. The Village Council has no control over assessments.
The Assessed Value of a property is an estimate of its worth on the open market.
The State Equalized Value is generally half the Assessed Value.
The Taxable Value is the amount that is actually taxed. It is generally equal to the State Equalized Value in the first year and then, due to a complicated formula, declines in comparison.
The following chart, comparing the total State Equalized Value (SEV) of all the property in the Village to the Taxable Value (TV), shows how TV generally declines over the years as a percentage of SEV.
